Our firm possesses extensive experience in the field of human rights law and our lawyers’ expertise and commitment to this complex field are unrivalled. Headed by managing partner Dr. Kypros Chrysostomides, our practice prides itself on its involvement in a significant number of high-profile applications before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, from as back as 1989. We were, in fact, the first firm on the island to do so, and we continue to be involved in the preparation, submission and hearings before the European Court of Human Rights of applications concerning alleged violations of human rights for local and international clients.
A large number of human rights law cases we handle, involve advising clients in Cyprus on the ongoing violations of their human rights, as a result of the Turkish invasion in July 1974. Our efforts and commitment to this work have resulted in a number of Judgments issued by the European Court of Human Rights in favour of our clients and against Turkey; the latter was, on numerous occasions, found in clear violation of the Applicants’ rights under the European Convention of Human Rights with respect to the continuous denied access to their land and real estate since 1974. It is noteworthy that in one year alone, 6 of our clients were awarded more than EUR 2.5 million as compensation for their claims against Turkey. |
